CORE leaders…
Follow Jesus in striving to connect with a generation of students often disconnected from adults; they persevere in making time, asking questions, actively listening, and going more than half way all so that students can catch the transforming love of Jesus Christ.
Qualifications:
1. Follows Jesus and actively seeks to grow in their faith
2. Seeks to know and love high school students
3. Directs students to Jesus and growing their relationship with him
Primary responsibilities:
CORE Large Group Leader: KEY ROLE: Build and model a faith community
• Attend CORE large group on Wednesday nights. Arrive by 6:45 pm and then participate in CORE from 7-8:15 pm.
• Actively create a welcoming and inviting presence for all high school students throughout the night. Work at connecting students with other students. We want to do an awesome job at hospitality!
• Supervise a CORE group that will be led by a student leader. CORE groups will only meet at CORE for a short time many nights and will be for the purpose of building community with students of different friend groups and different classes. These groups will likely change every month or two.
• Identify students who may desire to be in a mentoring relationship or a small group and help them get plugged in to a group.
Life Group Leader: KEY ROLE: Mentor students
• Consistently evaluate the level of mentorship that exists for each individual student in your group. Look for ways that you can encourage them in their spiritual growth or connect them with another adult who can mentor them.
• Meet with and be in regular contact with the student(s) that you are mentoring. Determine opportunities for you to meet as a group and individually.
• With new students, introduce yourself to students’ parents through a phone call or letter.
• Complete the mentor or mentor group covenant with your students.
• Complete the online leader report weekly.
• Prepare for your meetings -
o Pray for your students and your time together.
o Select appropriate resources to study from the list of options
o Make every effort to create and maintain a safe, caring, honest, fun, and faith challenging group environment.
• Further relationships with students, i.e. notes, e-mail, phone calls, and attending their extra- curricular activities.
Other responsibilities
• Attend the leader training retreat on August 25 and meet with Craig or Ali at least once a semester, or as often as you may want.
• Attend leader gatherings roughly every 6 weeks. This year we will do a mix of fun events and training events.
Secondary responsibilities:
• Participate in CORE events.
• Chaperone and lead students on fun and service trips.
• Serve CORE behind the scenes, i.e. set up, administration, food, events, and art.
• Spread the word about what God is doing in and among high school students!
• Identify and suggest other possible CORE leaders.
